Research Projects
The MultiMemoHome project (daughter of MATCH) is well under way and as a result has several publications and findings on the design of multimodal reminder systems for the home. The project has been working together with older users and users with sensory impairments to understand how to design good reminder system technologies for the home. This section will give an overview of the various projects being carried out under the MMH banner, explaining their aims and results in clear, easy to understand terms.
- User Requirements
- What are the requirements of a home reminder system? This project aims to answer that question through focus groups, interviews and home visits.
- Multimodal Reminders
- This project examined which multimodal techniques could be used to deliver reminders in the home by evaluating how disruptive and distracting they were along with their performance as reminder deliver methods. This research found a much wider range of capable notification modalities than are currently being used.
- Speech Reminders
- This project aims to examine the role of speech as a reminder delivery method, considering how to make it acceptable, intelligable and effective.
- Digital Pen
- The digital pen is a tool that can be used in the home as an organisational aid. A summer student at the University of Glasgow investigated how the pen could be used as assistive technology.
- Musicons
- Musicons are short snippets of familiar music that can be used to deliver a notification discretely; only the recipient knows what the music means. A summer project at the University of Glasgow evaluated the applications and limitations of Musicon reminders.
